How can cracking of thick‑type fire‑protective coatings be prevented?

Below, the editor from Henan Huiquan Industrial Co., Ltd. will explain how to prevent cracking during the application of thick‑type steel structure fireproof coatings!!!

1. Construction is primarily carried out by spraying, with a combination of spraying and plastering.

2. Substrate preparation: Clean the work surface, including removing oil and grease, eliminating rust, applying a coat of anti-rust primer, and, after the coating has dried, applying JF‑202. The thickness of the topcoat shall be determined in accordance with the fire‑protection design requirements.

3. Depending on environmental conditions, apply 5 mm per coat, with a 12-hour interval between coats, until the desired thickness is achieved. Typically, for a 10-mm finish, the consumption of the base material is 13.5 kg/m²; localized repairs may be performed manually.

4. Mixing: Combine one bucket of liquid component (Component A) with one bag of dry component (Component B). First, stir the liquid component for 2–3 minutes, then add the dry component and mix until the desired consistency is achieved before applying by spraying. The entire mixing and application process must be completed within 30 minutes; otherwise, the material will harden and lose its adhesion. Therefore, mix only as much as can be used immediately. The ambient temperature should ideally be above 4°C. When applying outdoors, exercise caution on rainy or windy days, and do not proceed with work unless appropriate protective measures are in place.
